Dear Marriage Supporter,
We’ve just received word that the decisive vote could come as early as this afternoon in the Minnesota House of Representatives, allowing the voters of Minnesota to preserve marriage as the union of a man and a woman. Voters in 31 other states have already been able to vote on the definition of marriage, and Minnesota voters want the same right. Surveys show that 74% of voters want the ability to decide the marriage issue themselves.
Gay marriage advocates are mounting a furious last-minute assault on Republican legislators in an effort to cow them into delaying the vote authorizing the marriage amendment until sometime next year. They are rallying supporters all around the country to contact Minnesota legislators asking them to stop the marriage amendment.
Here's what I need you to do:
-
First and foremost, if you live in Minnesota, contact your legislators immediately! Republican legislators especially need to hear from you! We've set up an action alert so that you can easily send your message to your own state representative, with a copy going to every member of the Republican Caucus in the House. Even if you've contacted your representative already, please send another email today reminding them how urgent this is. Click here to send your message urging them to let the people vote!
Remind them that legislators are not being asked to cast a vote on same-sex marriage, they are being asked to let the people decide! And let them know that any vote to postpone or block the vote will be considered a vote against the amendment.
- Even if you do not live in Minnesota, I need you to get involved by sending this message to anyone you know who lives in Minnesota, with a message letting them know that we urgently need their help. We need to counter the thousands of email messages coming in from same-sex marriage supporters all around the country, and can only do it with your help.
- Finally, we are calling for Minnesotans of all walks of life to come together at the Capitol tomorrow morning, urging legislators to let the people vote. We’ll be meeting in front of the House chambers (on the 2nd floor) at 10:30am. Opponents are planning to pack the Capitol, and your legislators need to see and hear from you as they prepare to vote! I know it’s short notice, but if you can drop everything and come to the Capitol tomorrow morning, please do it! And bring signs that say "Let the People Vote!"
