Dear Friends of Marriage,
The New York Senate is expected to vote on the same-sex marriage bill in today's special session.
1. CALL! Please take a moment right now to call your state senator, urging him to vote NO on the same-sex marriage bill. (Click here to find the phone number.) Then call three friends and ask them to do the same!
2. COME! A physical presence at the statehouse is crucial. If you can possibly clear your schedule, please come to the statehouse in Albany this afternoon to make a physical statement against same-sex marriage. Jason McGuire of New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms will be coordinating efforts on the ground in Albany. Look for him to be standing with a sign outside the Senate lobby. (Click here for directions to the statehouse.)
The special session is slated to start at noon. The first order of business is expected to be the deficit reduction package. If final agreement can be reached on a bill closing the budget deficit, sources indicate that the Senate will move quickly to the same-sex marriage bill.
The final vote will undoubtedly be close, and there are still enough undecided/undeclared votes that the outcome could go either way.
Please -- stop whatever you're doing and make a phone call to your state senator right now. The future of marriage in New York hangs in the balance.
